Spectacular and “ age-defining “ Art Deco piece by Hertwig and Co of Germany, incised under base D.R.G.M 5859 “ of a young “ flapper lady” with black “ Clara Bow “hairstyle with wide spit curls framing the face, gold dangling earrings, wonderful portrayal and detail of those mesmerizing “ Bette Davis Eyes “, wearing a yellow halter top and dark blue, almost cobalt dress. She is shamelessly reclining with arched back and resting on her elbows with hands outstretched totally free and away from the body, head tilted upward and forward, lifting her legs high in front to reveal the five layers of pastel petticoats previously obscured when in the “ proper ladylike “ position. The shoes with high heels are the same blue color as the skirt. When one grasps the les and lifts upward one realizes this is a two-piece covered box or pin tray, perhaps even an ashtray as the refuse from the tobacco could be temporarily be concealed until a later time. Height is 5” ( 13cm ) from bottom to top of legs, length from back of shoulders to front of skirt is 6 ½” (17cm). A truly marvelous piece in wonderful condition !…………………..US$ 395.

Stylish 6” ( 15cm ) French porcelain covered powder box with blue lower container holding a period pink “ powder puff “ and the top part features a ballerina in seated position with her right foot outstretched with both hands firmly grasping the ankle perhaps messaging after a vigorous workout, with the left leg folded underneath her body with toe tip barely visible in back. The skirt is decorated at edges with gold luster as well as star-shaped designs throughout. The hairstyle is classic 1920-style with bobbed “flapper” look and secured with a white molded and decorated headband with a gold star in front just above the black spit curl emitting below. On the back of the upper lid camouflaged under back of elevated skirt is a signature “A. GODARD.” On the underside of he base are many marking in red script “S E G B“ ( in a circle logo ) ; France “ ; “ editions Etling Paris “ ( all within a triangle logo ). Almost certainly viewed upon as “ radically modern “ in the 1920 era of production is this 8 ½” ( 20cm ) tall French porcelain covered box/dresser figural of a woman with white/platinum blond tightly pulled back hair into a tight bun with bare neck, leaning forward to exhibit bare shoulders, with dress top supported by a tiny thin straps with tight bodice comprised of alternating gold and black vertical panels and lower skirt area in pulsating gold lines as if they were rays of electricity, all the while presenting a more traditional and pacific oval front center panel featuring large blooming flowers and branches. Note the decorated painted base is like a continuation of that of the upper dress only in wider stripes hence implying the length of the gown may indeed be floor length. On the underside of the oval shaped base is a signature-like painted logo reading “ Aladin Made in France “ as well as a black paint spot resembling a “ wax seal “. Special attention should be given to the decoration to the area around the eyes that reveal blue eye shadow on the arched brows, and long heavy lashes on both top and bottom eyelids. ………………………………SOLD.

Both the top and lower portions have turquoise diamond-shaped center sections with a “turtle-shell-type/alligatored” affect and four yellow oval designs with red and white alternating “ sunburst-like “ projections in geometric design mode. Underneath on bottom is a green logo label reading “ France L.B. Vieux Limoges “. Inside the container is a period white powder pull with applied silk top and a blue turquoise bead handle encased in a bronze setting. We have also left original powder and wax debris from a previous owner to lend age authenticity to piece with next owner to do what he/she chooses for future display. 9” ( 22cm ) French porcelain Art Deco design covered box with oval shaped base, the top half as the head and torso of a lady wearing a strapless black blouse with square-cut collar, edged in gold luster and having her arms tightly folded with hands clasped just under the chin. The dramatic coiffure has the hair pulled tightly back leaving forehead totally exposed, ears fully covered, and all in back tightly gathered into a tight bun with neckline left bare. The primary basic color background is a cobalt blue with both geometric and floral designs in gold, light yellow, pale green, and white tiny dots. Inside both top and bottom sections are signatures in a green stamp “ B.G. Limoges FRANCE “. Overall condition is very good with only a minor irregularity in the back lower edge of the top section at the base which is barely detectable as it is edged in black, also allowing for the possibility this is a minor flaw “ in -the- making “ as opposed to a latter incurred chip. Impressive and ultra-stylistic portrayal of a 1920s independent young lady………………………………………………………….US$ 225.

6 ½” ( 17cm ) French porcelain dresser container in the form of a seated young woman wearing a thin black strapped dress with tight black bodice but long and flowing pink skirt. In her tightly upswept long black hair that frames her face and covers her ears entirely, there is a large orange hair ornament. Painted across upper right arms are three concentric black arm bands and on upper left arm a singular similar one and another at the wrist area. She appears to have a red and green object in the right hand pressing against the lower left arm, perhaps a small floral corsage. The paint decoration underneath the skirt as well as the entire exterior portion of the lower part of the box is black with thin vertical white stripes that are perfectly aligned when in place. On the underside of the base there is a signature-like marking “ Depose Paris “. In overall very good condition and is of an unusual heavy weight………………………………………………….US$ 235.

Unusual 5 ½” ( 13cm ) seated lady, obviously a woman of style and means, wearing a plum colored cape with matching cloche hat, seated on an object resembling the shape of a round hat box, legs crossed at the ankles above the low heeled shoes with gold luster highlights, wearing a pale green knee-length dress staring outward as to think of the proper wording of the letter she is about to prepare with paper and pen in hands. On base of bottom is incised “ 16420 Germany “, most likely Hertwig & Co. of Thuringia, circa 1920. In excellent condition with a thin delicate glaze covering the lady figure in particular……………………………………………US$ 235.

Charming 8 ½” ( 21cm ) French porcelain covered box signed on bottom underneath in ink script “ Aladin/ Made in France DD26 “, in a portrayal of an older child/very young lady with pale colored hair with bouquet pressed to her nose enjoying the floral scent. Her costume is a very stylized 1920 era design incorporating the harsher geometric patterns of the day with the more traditional floral leftover/transitional style of the Art Nouveau period. Also worth noting is the comparison of the pale pastel colors of the bouquet to the ultrarich deeper colors of the remainder of the figure!. Beautiful and imaginative!……..SOLD.

6 ½” ( 16cm ) seated lady on a tufted oversized pillow wearing a yellow flapper dress with strap on left side slipped down to elbow level. She has her hands grasped around her ankles with skirt hoisted above the knees revealing lavender colored stockings and yellow shoes matching the dress. She has the tradition ( yellow ) hairband that was a mainstay of this overall fashion style of the late teens-early 20s. The base is designed to create the remaining portion of the pillow or large stool while tufts of yellow in the furniture and the draped beads further create the picture meant to create. On bottom of base are incised the numbers “ 23713”. More than likely a German “ Hertwig & Co” product. At back of lower base ( The pillow ) there is an old repair that was an old “ reglue “ of a single piece that has fit straight back in place in nothing missing. Only some slight discoloring of the old glue gives away this lack of perfection to an otherwise outstanding portrait of the “ Roaring 20s “ lifestyle………………SOLD

Whimsical 3 ½” ( 9cm ) tall glazed porcelain figure of a man from an earlier century as a peddler selling in the street crying out “ dolls for sale “. He wears a stocking cap and earlier 19th Century style clothing and in two pockets in the back of jacket are two tucked away with a third in his hand showing to potential buyers in the market. The one in his hand is nude and looks suspiciously like a real child but for arguments sake one might rationalize it as a “ Frozen Charlie”-type as infant dolls were not the trend in those times. His head is separate and semi-secured by a spring attachment so technically this figure could also fall in the “ nodder “ category. No damage found…………………………………………..SOLD.
