When referring to French Fashion Lady Dolls Gauthier models often get a “ bad rap “ but one should not broadly characterize any specific make or brand because in the case of this doll it would be defy all the odds and heretofore erroneously drawn conclusions. Simply looking at the face alone one might automatically assume it were a Barrois or at least a Barrois-type poupee but after examining the back of the shoulder and seeing the clearly incised “ F G “ markings one is pleasantly surprised and indeed makes one seriously considering making casual broad generalities. This very early 20 ½” ( 51 cm ) doll is a solid one piece head and shoulder with very pale, almost translucent bisque with delicately painted and highlighted lips, almond-shaped eyecuts with blue glass inset eyes, well painted lashes and brows, and delicately shaded cheeks. The body is a typical all leather narrow waist fashion body with gusset joints at elbows, hips, and knees, in overall firm and relatively clean condition with some discoloration on lower forearms and hands that have separately stitched fingers. She still has the original dark blond mohair wig with long tight curls over cork pate, wonderful original leather fashion boots with the “ Allard “ logo on sole with the full figure of a lady and an impressed “7”, an antique pleated light blue cotton dress with lace trim, antique socks and undergarments, and an antique and probably original wicker bonnet with pale green silk lining. A very lovely doll not to be lightly dismissed no matter what one’s prior opinions might have been! US$ 1,950.
