Attractive and rarely found is this 25” ( 63cm ) closed mouth bebe incised “ R 11 R”, obviously produced by Jumeau circa early 1890’s, closely resembling the so-called “ Tete Jumeau “ and of the exact same era, but upon close scrutiny one can observe  a very slight modification in the shape of the facial modeling. The fully articulated French wood and composition is also of near exact construction, although unmarked, and perhaps a slightly deeper pink painted finish, and in the case of this example, totally original with only slight age wear and/or chipping. The head is attached to the body by the original spring coil.  She has striking brown paperweight eyes, pierced earlobes, finely painted tiny lashes, evenly arched multi-stroke brows, even facial painting, and a slight separation of the lips with painted closed space between. The wig is of lush and full curly antique blond mohair, the dress beautifully made of ivory pleated silk and pink silk ribbon bows, and antique fine lace, the hat of silk ribbons and lace, the antique shoes of white leather, pink ribbon edging, and metal buckles. Underwear is old white cotton and linen, the socks white crocheted silk thread. In the early 1890’s Jumeau made various models for major French department stores to sell as “ their own “ and dolls incised “ RR” were one of several made and distributed as such although according to Francois Theimer and Florence Theriault in their detailed book THE JUMEAU DOLL the exact retailer is/was unknown, at least as of date of the original book publication. “ Something Slightly Different “ for the Jumeau/French doll aficionado who wants “ One of Everything “ ( and a very nice example of this model on top !)…………….US$ 3,250.

Very pretty 23” ( 58 cm ) doll incised “ DEP  10 “, a classic example of a late 1890’s collaboration of French-German manufacturing as the heads are believed to having been produced in Germany by Simon & Halbig but specifically for the Fleishmann and Bloedel French firm ( and predecessors in the SFBJ Company ) and sold exclusively as “ French dolls”. She has a slightly smiling open mouth with four upper teeth, wide eye cuts with blue glass sleep eyes, thick lashes and upper and lower painted lashes, as well as pierced earlobes.  The French body is fully jointed wood and composition with good original patina. The wig is full blond bobbed antique blond human hair, the dress dark salmon linen with white cutwork blouse, antique knit stocking and very nice antique white French leather shoes,( lacking one silk ribbon strap on right shoe and the one on left needing reconnection ).  A very pretty doll at a reasonable price of only …….US$ 650.
