A
desirable doll of superb quality and thought to be the largest known size
( 18 1/2 ", 48 cm ) of Kestner's portrayal of an Asian baby. He is
incised "K germany 14
243 J.D.K. , has beautiful bisque of an olive/yellowish tint with
black lashes and multi-stroke brows, an open mouth with two upper teeth
and a separately molded tongue, brown glass sleep eyes in almond shaped
eye cuts, and mounted to the original five piece bent limb baby body with
fine original finish in a color that well compliments the unique color of
the bisque head , and bearing the stamp "Germany " at the back
top of the torso. The black bobbed mohair wig is original and although
simple in nature and construction the clothing is a printed silk dress
with printed design showing flowers, fans, and birds. A wonderful doll in
a size very difficult to find at a very reasonable price of only ...SOLD |

Larger
than normally found is this 20" (51 cm ) example of the Kestner
" Gibson Girl " dressed and presented in a stereotypical
portrayal of women of fashion and prestige in the earliest years of the
Twentieth Century as
typified by the illustrator Charles Dana Gibson. This classic doll
is incised on back of head " 172
7 " and is a bisque shoulder head doll with closed , slightly
smiling mouth, with chin jutting slightly forward, having blue glass sleep
eyes, a pointed nose and chin, painted lower lashes and the bare remnants
of the original silk upper ones. The body of this doll is unique to this
head only and is mostly leather with a narrow waist, leather upper arms
and bisque lower arms with a hinge joint at the elbow, and although the
remainder of the body is also leather it has a unique hinge joint at both
the hip and the knee allowing further articulation. She is dressed in a
simple white cotton and lace dress but with the typical " Gibson Girl
" straight laced high collar, puffy shoulders, and a floor length
black taffeta skirt , black velvet antique slippers and a straw bonnet.
The wig is very dark human hair with a center part and upswept braids.

Each
K&R 117 ( Mein Liebling ) model seems to have its own character and
leaves a unique impression and this one with head incised " SIMON
& HALBIG S&H K*&R 117
55 "
leaves her own distinct mark. She has lovely smooth oily bisque, a
closed mouth with pouty full lips with slight smile, brown glass sleep
eyes with painted upper and lower lashes as well as the remnants of the
upper silk ones as well. The body is original and in good condition with
fine patina, fully articulated wood and composition. The original brown
antique mohair wig is in excellent condition with bangs and long curls.
She is well presented in an antique Scottish -type costume with wool plaid
shirt, cap,, blue underskirt, off-white linen jacket with brass buttons,
and knit socks. The only items that are not original are the fine leather
boots but they are French and of the same period, impressed on the soles
" 8 Depose " and also with the well known logo of the full
figure of a young lady. Very appealing doll with great presence and
character. . SOLD

HUGE
32" ( 81cm ) character, perhaps the largest model we have seen of
this mold, with head incised " 1488 Simon & Halbig 15 ",
with blue glass sleep eyes, an open/closed mouth with wide space between
the lips but no molded teeth, on a near mint German wood and composition
body which is fully articulated. She wears a wonderful bobbed but very
curly antique light brown mohair wig, a very nice antique silk cotton and
lace dress with silk ribbon insertions, old undergarments, socks, and
white leather shoes, as well as a peachy and turquoise silk cloche bonnet
with floral silk florettes. The bisque quality is also especially nice
with even facial coloring, well painted eyebrows and upper and lower
lashes. Considering the rarity of this doll in this impressive size, she
is quite a bargain at.........US$

Whimsical
boy known as " Whistling Jim " having a bisque head with flange
neck, molded and painted hair and facial features with blue intaglio eyes,
a mouth with pursed lips with slight opening in center, and mounted to a
cloth torso with cloth legs joined at hips diagonally like found on a
toddler body, and cloth arms jointed at the shoulders with composition
forearms. There is a bellows hidden in the belly of the torso and when
pressed it makes a distinct whistling sound, hence the name. He has a
period one piece cotton outfit, white cotton socks and antique white paper
shoes. and comes with an addition brass whistle in the event he becomes
fatigued. This example is a much larger ( 13' , 33cm ) than normally found
