Wonderful cloth " Becassine " family consisting of a 16" ( 41cm ) vintage cloth figure of the famous French national tease figure, and holding an 8" ( 22 cm ) version of the same age, material , and condition. They have painted stockinet-type faces with linen caps, green felt dresses, and white cotton aprons and brown felt covered shoes. In the lager's hand is a finely woven wicker-type picnic basket lined with a traditional red and white checked table cover and a paper label reading " LaVrai Becassine Modele Depose Poupees Reine DEGRAIS ". Within the basket are also two very tiny Becassine figures with bisque--like heads. The larger cloth figures are guaranteed to be old but we are not familiar with the tiny one with the hard heads. Regardless of their age , they add greatly to the presentation of the package!............................US$ 875 ( the entire lot ).

11" ( 28cm ) ( to top of pointed hat) whimsical Schuco cloth velvet and felt " yes-no " gnome whose head goes up and down as well as side to side by moving the metal mechanism hidden under the back of the trousers. He has a felt airbrushed face with white mohair beard, velvet trousers and cap, felt jacket and tops of sandals, and black metal glasses frames . In addition he has movable joints at shoulders and hips to allow for extra positioning. He is wonderfully clean with near brilliant color with little to no fading. Pinned to his jacket is a round white paper tag with brass edge reading in old pen script " 7181/28 " ( perhaps a store inventory number plus the height ?).  A cheery fellow and not found often!........................US$ 395.

Ever popular 19" ( 49 cm ) cloth " Raggedy Ann " , copyright Johnny Gruelle, 1918-1920. Although produced over a period of many years by several companies, this example was made by GEORGENE NOVELTIES and bears a cloth tag sewn to left side of center torso identifying her as such. She has the typical red yarn curly hair, a cloth body with sewn joints at shoulders and hips, with legs from hips to ankles red and white horizontal striped cloth and black satin covered and modeled shoes. The floral print cotton dress and white cotton apron and knickers are also original . Printed on the torso is a red heart with " I Love You " contained within the borders. The face has printed and painted features with red triangular shaped outlined nose and black " shoe button " -type eyes. Condition is overall very good with some slight surface dust due to age and exposure. Probably an early to mid-1940's production and well known to the earliest period of the "Baby Boomers "! ..................................US$ 350.

Charming 19" ( 49 cm ) all cloth doll with painted facial features and curly hair with sewn joints at elbows, shoulders, hips, and knees, sewn fingers with separately sewn and slightly separated thumbs, and wearing an antique pale pink thin cotton dress with wide lace trimmed collar, old underwear, lovely old lace and pink ribbon cap, and a nice enameled cameo-type pin trimmed in brass ( lacks any shoes but has pink socks ).  She bears no identifying markings and although unlikey that she is, she has many of the characteristics and qualities as the famous " Moravian Dolls " made in and around Bethlehem , PA.  Although her facial features are somewhat faded with age and exposure to light, she remains nonetheless a sweet doll and thereby should not to be dismissed.................US$ 325.

14" ( 35cm ) Lenci child from the early 1930's with the " Lucia " face in her elaborate colorful ethnic costume representing one of the southern provinces of Italy. The only identifying feature is a smudged stamp on the bottom of her right foot, but she has the zigzag stitching on the back of her neck as well as the second and third fingers stitched together on both hands. She has brown painted side glancing eyes, a black mohair wig with center part drawn into two tight braids wrapping around and covering both ears. The costume consists of a purple felt skirt with horizontal fuchsia band at the bottom of the skirt with two more narrow bands on each side, one yellow and one pale green. The same green is used for the long sleeve blouse which is edged in yellow with crisscrossed green ties which is covered by a white organdy shawl. There is an apron of the identical organdy tied around her waist, and she also wears a bead necklace and brass hoop earrings. The undergarments consist of white linen pantaloons and half slip, both edged in fuchsia felt. The socks are white cotton and the shoes are one piece black felt slippers. The overall condition is very good with good coloring on the face with just some minor typical surface dust and a few miniscule moth holes on the clothing. US$ 495.
